Collection of stories about basketball legends and heroes. Many of the stories are Michael Jordan and Larry Bird. Also included in the collection is a list of common phases used on the court, and a few personal narratives about basketball games. The analysis describes how basketball fulfills the twin laws of folklore by having both dynamic and conservative elements, such as differences in rules but the general point of the game always stays the same. Hallow collected narratives of rituals and superstitions practiced by basketball players. Included are the traditions of eating fries with an entire bottle of ketchup, wearing lucky boy scout socks, and wearing specific numbers when playing the game. Items include a man growing marijuana and evading police, gang initiation rites, Terry the tramp, crimes, hippies and drugs, and other illegal and immoral things.
