Scope and Contents note

This project is a collection of baseball superstitions. The analysis discusses how baseball players often rely on superstitions to attempt to control the amount of chance in the game, as well as create a sense of belonging. Claims that to some baseball enthusiasts, baseball is a religion and the magic of superstition can control the outcome. Discusses the importance of routine, rituals, taboos, and charms. Includes a 10 item collection, including the following superstitions: Mountain Dew routine, 7:13 AM routine, hot dog routine, wake up routine, no hitter rule, head charm, kissing Ms. Spears, the lucky penny, and the bottle charm. Collected by Matthew Bjork, Dr. Rudy's ENGL 392 class, Winter 2008.
