Administrative History
The College of Family Living (1954-1981) was an instructional unit at Brigham Young University. It was intended to prepare students for homemaking, careers related to homemaking, and enrichment of family life.
The College of Family Living was formed out of the College of Applied Science in 1954. During its first year, it was administered by a director, Royden C. Braithwaite. Its subsequent Deans were Marion C. Pfund, Jack B. Trunnell, Virgina F. Cutler, and Blaine R. Porter. The college administered the following departments: Clothing and Textiles, Economics and Management of the Home, Food and Nutrition, Homemaking Education, Housing Design, Human Development and Family Relationships, Housing and Home Management, Family Life Education, Child Development and Family Relationships, Home Economics Education, Environmental Design, Family Economics and Home Management, Food Science and Nutrition, Interior Design, Family Studies, Interior Environment, and Family Resource Management.
