The stories of outsider musicians / Matt Beatty, 2006
This project looks at the folklore surrounding outsider musicians. An outsider is one who strays from the musical norm, away from mainstream music, and is one that favors more heartfelt, experimental music. Outsiders are also artists who keep their life shrouded in secret. The stories collected recount the lives and experiences of these outsiders that show the value of creativity, nonconformity, and love. Kirry asked family and friends to recall sayings from their grandparents and under what circumstances they would be said. Included are stories to encourage children to behave, wives tales, and ways to influence children's eating habits. Project was created for Kristi Bell's English 391 course taught at Brigham Young University in 1999.

Young discusses how her project came to be through her friend Carrie Poole. She discusses the forms of folklore present in a nursing home, and the different roles they serve. Young relates personal narratives in three categories; cautionary tales, humorous stories, and uplifting stories. Young's collection comes from Idaho. Created by Emily Young when she was enrolled in Dr. Paulsen's English 391class in winter 2002.

The story of the Kushtaka : an Alaskan legend / Carolyn Anderson, 1998
Anderson collected stories of Kushtakas, a mythical Alaskan creature that is half man, half land otter. The stories included Kushtakas luring people into traps by imitating baby cries, Kushtakas attempting to kidnap children, and Kushtakas appearing in the form of a loved one and then disappearing. The project was written for an English 392 class taught at Brigham Young University in 1998.
