The story of superstition : jinxes upon a test / Jung-ah Ahn, 2009
Scope and Contents note
This project is a collection of rituals and superstitions that individuals believe will help them on a test. The analysis discusses how superstitions arise, and how ignorance and belief in magic is often associated with jinxes and superstitions. Notes how the uncertainty of a test gives rise superstitions. According to the collector all informants' responses involve something they must do or not do to achieve success, including the following: prayer and scripture reading, not washing hair, not trimming fingernails, turning off cell phone, not wearing any jewelry, bringing enough pencils and scrap paper, and studying. Collected by Jung-ah Ahn, Dr. Thursby's ENGL 391 class, Winter 2009.
