Contains family histories, scrapbooks, which include original ephemera and correspondence, and the autobiographies of Mildred Bennion Eyring and Helen Bennion Barker. Also contains transcriptions of the Bennion family journals and correspondence, a photocopy of a handwritten list of the Bennion family members written in 1900, and photocopies of a journal ledger and other correspondence. Materials dated approximately 1842-1981.

Handwritten diary. Bennion records his activities from the time he left Salt Lake City, Utah through his first year as a missionary for the Mormon Church in England.

John E. Bennion diaries

Photocopies of handwritten diaries. Bennion writes about his life in the Taylorsville area of Utah and in Rush Valley and Long Valley, Utah. He also lived for a time in Nevada. Bennion was married polygamously, participated in the Utah War of 1857-1858, had an encounter with an Indian in 1858, saw the first handcart company arrive in Salt Lake City in 1856, served on a mission to England for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and participated in many other activities.

Scope and Contents Secretary of Agriculture Ezra Taft Benson (writing from Washington D.C.) thanks Margaret Pitzer (Santa Cruz, California) for her recent letter. Margaret Pitzer has just visited Salt Lake City and has heard that Benson wants to run for a second term as Secretary of Agriculture. Benson corrects this rumor.
