Biography

Brigham Young (1801-1877) was a Latter-day Saint ecclesiastical leader and politician in Utah.

Brigham Young was born on June 1, 1801, in Witingham, Vermont. He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1832, and moved to Kirtland, Ohio. He followed the migration of the Church from Ohio to Missouri to Nauvoo, Illinois. In February 1846, he led the "Mormon Exodus" to the West, and was sustained as the second president of the Church on December 27, 1847. Arriving in Utah, he settled in Salt Lake City, and in 1849 was appointed as governor of Utah Territory. Young passed away on August 29, 1877, in Salt Lake City, Utah.

James Lovett Bunting diaries

Scope and Contents Handwritten diaries. Bunting writes about his service as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1857 to 1858 and his immigration to Utah in 1858. Bunting describes his preparation for the overland journey, which began at Florence, Nebraska, and the basic geography of the route. He also mentions meeting Colonel Thomas Kane. Printed and handwritten certificates, bonds, and commissions. The items document Martineau's commission in the Utah Militia, his appointment as the Sheriff of Iron County, Utah, and his position as an alderman of Parowan, Utah. Seven of the manuscripts were signed by Brigham Young (1801-1877), the second president of the Mormon Church.

Photocopies of handwritten meeting minutes taken at the "Theology Class" or "School of the Prophets" in Grantsville, Utah. The class was addressed by the second president of the Mormon Church, Brigham Young (1801-1887), and other apostles and leaders of that church. Numerous topics relating to Mormon theology and doctrine were discussed as well as various issues on Grantsville.
