Typewritten retrospective account of Brady's overland journey from St. Louis, Missouri to Sacramento, California with his father and brother, John, his experiences with gold mining, and his steamship trip back to Missouri via Nicaraqua. He includes comments about the Donner Party and William Walker in Nicaragua.

Thomas Green promissory note
Handwritten and signed financial note dated June 6, 1860. Green promises to pay George Q. Cannon $76.80 for "4 hand cart shares" and $58.41 for provisions after he arrives in Salt Lake City.
Minnie P. Grow letter
Photocopy of a letter from Minnie to mother Grow, and another relative named Nell. Minnie writes about a trip she made from Sacramento, California to Salt Lake City, Utah. She writes that she went by railroad and describes the places in Salt Lake City that she saw. She mentions meeting the family of Brigham Young while in Utah. Included is a typed transcription of the letter. Dated June 20, 1871.

Edwin Harley diaries
Photocopies of handwritten diaries. Harley came to Council Bluffs, Iowa, in 1848 and migrated to Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1852. He settled in Nephi, Utah, where he was a farmer and served in numerous local positions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Harley writes about his daily activities often in short notes. Also included are financial records from 1846 to 1868.

Handwritten diaries containing entries concerning an overland journey from Tipton, Iowa, to Oregon. Describes Oregon City, Oregon, work for a lumber mill, travel on the Willamette River and daily life in Oregon City. The fourth diary covers a trip from March to July, 1862 to the Salmon River gold mines near Lewiston, Idaho.

Ezekiel W. Headley diary
Handwritten diary with photocopies. Headley made the overland journey from Cincinnati, Ohio to California in 1849. Brief, frequent entries focus on distances traveled and camping locations. Headley also writes about the large number of deaths in his company and the many graves which he passed. Lists of the amount of gold dust which he dug in California, as well as expenses, are located in the second half of the diary. A copy of a poem and letter are located at the end.
