Life of William Howell

Biography of William Howell (1816-1851) by his grandson, William Louis Howell. William Howell was born in Wales and was converted to the Mormon Church. He was active in that faith and died in 1851 near Kanesville, Iowa, while moving with the Mormons to Utah.

The diary recounts his trip across the United States to become a gold panner in California. Mann describes the climate, surrounding nature, the wagon train, camping life, and the prospect of searching for gold in California.
