Typescript of a diary (34 leaves) by Eva Morse which records the overland journey by railroad from Compton, Illinois, to Eddyville, Iowa. From there she proceeded with a wagon train to Stockton, California. Included are descriptions of Indians and sarcastic remarks about a Mormon handcart company.

Handwritten and unsigned letter dated 19 May 1850. Item was written by an unidentified member of a wagon train and includes some detail about the author's preparation for the trip to California. The letter describes the overland journey from Saint Joseph, Missouri to the Platte River and ends 80 miles from Fort Laramie, Wyoming. Author mentions dining on buffalo, weather conditions, and cooking on the plains.

John Murdock journal and autobiography

Materials include two copies of the typescript of an autobiography covering, 1792-1867, and journals, 1830-1859. Murdock was a Campbellite who joined the Mormon Church in 1830. He lived with Joseph Smith (1805-1844), the Mormon prophet, in 1833 and participated in "Zion's Camp" in 1834. He lived in Kirtland, Ohio; Nauvoo, Illinois; and Lehi, Utah and was in Missouri during the persecution of Mormons in that state.

Mimeographed copy of a typewritten history. Watkins migrated to Utah in 1856 with the ill-fated Martin Handcart Company. He writes of an incident during the trek with that group. On a very cold night in Wyoming, Watkins and two others found, killed, and butchered an ox.

Typed and photocopied biographical materials about Ray Olsen's ancestors. Most of these materials are excerpts from individuals' diaries and autobiographies. Many of these items relate to the early history of the Mormon Church. These biographies also include information about their conversions to the Mormon Church in Denmark and England and their journies to America. A number of these sources tell about the Martin Handcart Company's tragic trek to Utah.

The materials discuss Stanislawa Habel's childhood in Poland, her family life, her conversion to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and her career as a nurse. Materials dated August 2001.
