Scope and Contents

Papers of S. LeRoy Richards and his extended family. Contains Richard's diary, autograph book, an autobiography, and a map of Tennessee, where Richards was assigned as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as part of the Southern States Mission from 1902 to 1905. Also contains family histories, patriarchal blessings, and other papers related to the Staley, Huffman, and Rhead families, all of which are related to LeRoy's wife, Hannah Rhead. Materials dated approximately 1848-1967.

Biographical / Historical

S. LeRoy Richards was born on October 25, 1882, in Union, Utah, to Silas Newton Richards and Mary Norman Goulder. LeRoy married Hannah Elizabeth Rhead on August 21, 1907. LeRoy served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Southern States Mission from 1902 to 1905. LeRoy and Hannah had four children: Silas, Edward, Grace, and Deane. LeRoy lived in Salt Lake City for several years before moving to California where he operated an industrial products firm in Oakland. LeRoy died on April 20, 1961, in El Cerrito, California.
