Mary Fielding Smith certificate
Printed form with handwritten entries. The item is dated 13 Aug. 1844 and is signed. Mary Smith accepts responsibility for the estated of her husband, Hyrum Smith.
Geauga County (Ohio) court record
One handwritten court record. The item is a copy made in 1860 by William N. Keeny, clerk of Geauga County, of the original court record dated 1839. The Halsted Haines Co. sued Joseph Smith (1805-1844), Hyrum Smith, Olivery Cowdery, Sidney Rigdon, Brigham Young, and other Mormon Church leaders for redress in connection with questionable business practices. Since the defendants failed to appear when summoned, the plaintiffs were awarded $2337.35 plus expenses.
Harmon family patriarchal blessings
Handwritten patriarchal blessings given to the members of the Harmon family while they resided in Nauvoo, Illinois, and in Utah. Various patriarchs promise the family members that they may be saved by obedience to the Mormon faith. One of the blessings was given by Hyrum Smith, the brother of Joseph Smith who was the first president of the Mormon Church.
Josiah Lambourn precipe
Handwritten and signed order dated 5 June 1845. Labourn directs the Hancock Circuit Court to subpoena prosecution witnesses for the upcoming trial of the murders of Hyrum Smith, second patriarch of the Mormon Church. The item lists the witnesses.
Redd family papers
Photocopies of handwritten and typewritten materials. Most of the items were collected by the descendants of Lemuel Hardison Redd (1856-1923). Included in the collection are minutes of a Redd family meeting, a biography of Eliza M. Partridge Lyman, a list of persons buried in Bluff, Utah, from 1880 to 1951, correspondence of family members, two patriarchal blessings given by Hyrum Smith, and an essay by John Redd, a student at the Brigham Young Academy in Provo, Utah.
Hyrum Smith papers
Collection includes diaries, letters, property records, bibles and family records related to Hyrum Smith. Includes diaries of missions taken by Hyrum, the 1834 Hyrum Smith family bible, with family record dating up to 1872, and material used by the School of the Prophets in Kirtland, Ohio. Dated 1831-1872.
Hyrum Smith patriarchal blessing for Mary B. Wolsey
Handwritten patriarchal blessing, dated 2 Feb. 1842, and given to Mary B. Wolsey. The item is written down by James Sloan, Smith's clerk. Smith tells Wolsey she has great blessings awaiting her if she is obedient to the Mormon faith.
