Handwritten and typewritten correspondence and legal papers. The materials relate to Richards' law career in Utah. Some of the materials relate to the Edmunds-Tucker Act of 1887 which sought to make the prosecution of the practice of polygamy enforceable and to Mormon polygamy in general.

Hester Telle Richards diary and correspondence

Scope and Contents

Collection includes a handwritten diary, letters, and miscellaneous items. The bulk of the diary was written from 1891 to 1893 prior to her marriage. The entries are lengthy and often introspective. The volume includes some later entries from 1932 to 1933 and some notes from 1980 in another hand. Also included is miscellaneous correspondence relating to business and family matters from 1932 and 1933.

Jane Foote Taylor and Stayner Richards papers

Scope and Contents This collection consists of letters, papers, miscellaneous items, and a diary. Twenty-three of the letters were written by Stayner Richards and six were written by his wife, Jane Foote Taylor Richards, to their daughter Mae Fotheringham. They were written while Sayner was president of the British Mission. The materials are concerned with family, mission, and Mormon Church matters. Jennetta Richards letters

Scope and Contents

Five holograph letters plus typescripts of each. All of the letters were written to the family of Jennetta Richards (d. 1845) in England. Three are by Jennetta and were composed in Nauvoo, Illinois. They are largely concerned with family matters. One dated 8 July 1844 tells of the assassination of the Mormon Prophet, Joseph Smith (1805-1844).

John Richards letters

Handwritten letters addressed to Richards' son, John Richards (1806-1889), who joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and migrated to Nauvoo, Illinois, and to Utah in 1851. Also included is a letter from John Richards' (1806-1889) brother, Thomas Richards. The letters were sent when John, Jr., was living in Canada, Nauvoo, and in Mill Creek, Utah. The items deal largely with family matters and relate impressions of international affairs.
