Scope and Contents

The Milton Rice papers include the following:

1. Letter from Milton Rice to his father. Rice expresses his happiness at receiving a letter from his father. He asks about his father’s crops. He describes the weather and social life of Hankin County. The men of the county are rich planters who live in nice frame houses. The last page of the letter is written to his mother. 18 Nov 1850. 4 leaves, last word on each line missing.

2. Pages from History of Ontario County: Family Sketches. 1 leaf.

3. Pages from a book about Jerseymen in the Revolutionary War, mentioning James Rice. 1 leaf.

4. Rice family biographical information. 1 leaf.

5. Bible family record pages. 4 leaves.

6. James Rice’s will, signed by Joseph E Teattle[ ], Ezra Blackann[ ], Caleb Carving and Chester Rice. 3 leaves.

Biographical History

Milton H. Rice was born August 25, 1828 in Seneca Township, Ontario, New York to Edward Owen Rice and Julia A. Harmon. He married Anne E. Beebe August 21, 1855, and they had four children. Milton died November 19, 1868.
