Scope and Contents

This series consists of legal files (1937-1988) detailing the work of Stephen G. Boyden, who was a business partner of John Kennedy. Boyden was appointed General Counsel of the Ute Indian Tribe of the Uintah and Ouray Reservation (located in Utah) on matters of education and child development, industrial development and trade, taxation, labor and public welfare, land ownership, oil and gas leasing, mineral and water rights, hunting and fishing regulations, tribal sovereignty, incorporation, and administration, etc., as well as numerous individual suits. This includes legal and tribal correspondence and court documentation, legal research on relations between American Indian Tribes and the Federal Government, newspaper clippings, photos, and maps.

Biographical History

John Paul Kennedy worked as a lawyer with the Ideal National Insurance Company, and is now a Judge of the Third District Court of Utah.

John Paul Kennedy is a former business partner of Stephen G. Boyden, General Legal Counsel of the Ute Indian Tribe, and of John S. Boyden, Jr., Chairman and CEO of the Ideal National Insurance Company. He worked as a lawyer for a private firm in Salt Lake City, Utah. He is currently a Judge of the Third District Court of Utah and is living in Salt Lake City.
