Biography
Brigham Young (1801-1877) was a Latter-day Saint ecclesiastical leader and politician in Utah.
Brigham Young was born on June 1, 1801, in Witingham, Vermont. He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1832, and moved to Kirtland, Ohio. He followed the migration of the Church from Ohio to Missouri to Nauvoo, Illinois. In February 1846, he led the "Mormon Exodus" to the West, and was sustained as the second president of the Church on December 27, 1847. Arriving in Utah, he settled in Salt Lake City, and in 1849 was appointed as governor of Utah Territory. Young passed away on August 29, 1877, in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Predictions made by President Brigham Young
Typewritten and notarized affidavits. The materials purport that the second president of the Mormon Church, Brigham Young (1801-1877), visited Provo, Utah, on numerous occasions and predicted that there would be a Mormon temple built on a bench of land northeast of the town. He also predicted that a railroad line would go west from Ogden, Utah, across the Great Salt Lake. These items are stories handed down by word of mouth through family members in Provo, Utah.
George Reynolds letter to Brigham Young
Handwritten and signed letter, dated 5 Feb. 1873, and addressed to Brigham Young, second president of the Mormon Church. Reynolds writes about his concerns for the state of the Salt Lake Theatre.
William Wollerton Riter letters
Handwritten and signed letters. Also included is an "Estimate of cost of Construction of one mile of narrow gauge railroad." Riter writes to the second president of the Mormon Church, Brigham Young, concerning the value of the coal reserves in Summit County, Utah, and the expenses of building a railroad in the area.
R. N. Russell letter to Brigham Young
Handwritten and signed letter, dated 26 April 1876, and addressed to Brigham Young, second president of the Mormon Church. Russell writes requesting aid from Young to help him secure employment with a Brother Clawson.
Frederick William Seward autobiography
Typewritten excerpt taken from a "memo of his life and selections from his letters 1861-1872." Seward writes about coming to Utah by train and describes what he saw in Salt Lake City. He met the president of the Mormon Church, Brigham Young (1801-1877), and relates what Young said about Mormon polygamy.

Heber C. Kimball and Brigham young stock subscription certificate
Handwritten subscription certificate signed by nine persons and two corporations and dated 3 March 1866. The item was signed by Brigham Young, second president of the Mormon Church, and Heber C. Kimball, an apostle in the same faith.
John Taylor letters
Photocopies of typed copies of letters sent by John Taylor to his wives and to such LDS Church leaders as Brigham Young and Wilford Woodruff. The materials deal largely with family and Church matters. Also included are photocopies of handwritten notes on Taylor's various wives.
Utah Governor proclamation
Photocopy of printed gubernatorial proclamation dated 23 April 1853. The document describes how "a horde of Mexicans, outlandish men" was creating unrest in the Territory, and orders the arrest of "every strolling Mexican party, and those associating with them" within the area. The document further orders the Utah Militia on alert and directs all Mexicans in the Territory to remain at home. The proclamation was signed at Provo, Utah, by Brigham Young.
