He served with the 96th Bomb Group in the European Theatre. In "There I Was: Remembrance of World War II" (several versions of which are included), he recalls first hearing about Pearl Harbor as a serviceman. In that piece he also recounts being taken as a prisoner-of-war by the German Home Guard after being forced to bail out...
