Leland Stanford letter
Handwritten and signed letter written from San Francisco on April 12, 1862 and addressed to Edwin M. Stanton (1814-1869), Secretary of War for the United States. Stanford is concerned for the defense of California in the Civil War. He requests that federal arms be turned over to the California militia to make a more effective force. He also describes the condition of the defenses of California.

John Stewart letter to Christian Stewart
A three-page letter from John Stewart while in India to his sister, Christian Stewart, in Scotland. The letter relates to the military engagements of the First Anglo-Sikh War that ended in 1846, as well as peripheral experiences during his time aboard his ship, namely a severe cholera outbreak. Dated 4 August 1846. Collection also contains a transcription of the original letter.

These items represent investigations of that claim. They inlcude letters from officers over him and others who knew of his activities. They demonstrate that Stringfellow's war stories were essentially fabrications.
Joseph William Stobbe autobiography
Contains a spiral bound autobiography of World War II veteran Joseph William Stobbe detailing his experiences in the U.S. Infantry in France during 1943. Also described are his later trips back to France retracing his wartime journey. Throughout are pictures of some of the locations being described.
George John Stumpf papers
Correspondence, certificates, newspaper clippings, programs, and identification cards. Many of the items deal with Lindbergh and with the death of Stumpf. Most of the certificates deal with Stumpf's service as an aviator in World War I.
