Most of the remaining letters are to Best's wife, Ann, and their children telling of his life and work in Sacramento and Petaluma, California as a rancher and bricklayer. Also includes an example of a Gregory's Express Pocket Letter Book and an 1850 November 5 letter from Augustus Best to A. Jackson Best.

Biddle described the capture and interrogation of two thieves by the names of "Sullivan" and "Sinclair."These two men were taken from a jail by a "Vigilance committee" of fifteen men with Biddle as a member.
