Scope and Contents

ALS's written to Best's brother which describe Chimney Rock, Nebraska and experiences with buffalo. Most of the remaining letters are to Best's wife, Ann, and their children telling of his life and work in Sacramento and Petaluma, California as a rancher and bricklayer. Also includes an example of a Gregory's Express Pocket Letter Book and an 1850 November 5 letter from Augustus Best to A. Jackson Best.
