Scope and Contents note

Manuscript letter to Reverend Nathaniel Stacy in Michigan Territory regarding preaching and religious persecution. Perrysburg, Ohio, December 28, 1836.

The writer proposes that Father Stacy meet him at a point midway between their respective homes, that they exchange horses and return to preach at one another’s congregations. (. . . they will want to hear the word spoken in the strength of the wisdom of age . . .).

Biddlecom writes that Perrysburg Universalists have suffered at the hands of the Presbyterians, Baptists and Methodists. I have had to sustain a most violent assount from the Enemy . . . they showed themselves to be most bitter. Bless me! . . . The arrows of slander were thrown thick & fast at first, but you know there is nothing to be feared from them while we have the shield of faith . . . 8 by 10 inches. 2 pages and integral address leaf (approximately 450 words).

Biographical History

Daniel R. Biddlecom (1805-1885) was a Universalist preacher in Ohio.

Daniel R. Biddlecom was born in July 1805 in Deerfield, Oneida, New York. He married Mary Ann Edmondson May 26, 1842 in Dayton, Montgomery, Ohio. Daniel R. Biddlecom was a well-known Universalist preacher in Ohio. He was known in the West as a minister of the Restitution. He died December 19, 1885 in Richmond, Wayne, Indiana.
