Mary Ann's diary covers the time period during which she accompanied William on his mission to the Sandwich Islands for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. William King's diary discusses his ranching, camping, and traveling activities.

The journals chronicle his first and second missions to the Sandwich (Hawaiian) Islands from 1852-57 and 1864-65. Typescripts were prepared in 2005 by John J Hammond of Kent State University. Abstract Collection includes a handwritten autobiography and diary written by Ward E. Pack between 1854 and 1876. Titled "The Extraordinary Life of a Traveling Elder" and compiled by Riley Moore Moffat in 2019. Includes an introduction and preface providing historical details about Richards, his journals, and his first mission to Hawaii from 1854 to 1857.
