Azariah Smith autobiography

Handwritten fragment of an autobiography. The pages are numbered from 10 to 17. The item is believed to have been written when Smith was over 84 years old. Smith writes about his early settlement in Manti, Utah, and his subsequent life there.

George Washington Bradley autobiography

Typewritten copy of an autobiography. Bradley writes about being called to settle in Sanpete County. He was among the first settlers in Manti, Utah, and tells about life there, and contact with Ute Indians. Also included are three biographies of Bradley by family members. The dates of composition of these items are uncertain.

Joseph Hatten Carpenter diaries

Handwritten diaries, notes, account books, correspondence, and a translation of the Book of Mormon into the Samoan language. Carpenter writes about his mission for the Mormon Church in Samoa and about his activities as a resident of Manti. Late in life, Carpenter moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. Also included is a printed copy of a microfilm copy of a handwritten diary. Carpenter also writes about his early life and his travels to northern Germany and France in 1884 and 1885.

Correspondence, record books, pension petitions, certificates, pamphlets, articles of incorporation, poems, blessings, poems, and miscellaneous items. The materials relate to Farnsworth's activities particulary in the Mormon Church. Included in the collection are letters from the fourth president of the Mormon Church, Willford Woodruff, patriarchal blessings, letters relating to Mormon polygamy, and a book recording the work done in the Manti Temple of the Mormon Church.

Typewritten manuscript of a history of Manti, Utah. The item covers the years from 1849 to 1897. It includes contributions from a number of authors who describe their experiences. A number of accounts of Indian troubles are presented as well as descriptions of how the town and its fort were constructed. The manuscript was apparently never published.
