Frederick W. Crook and Elizabeth Fletcher Crook collection of Mandarin squares and Chinese embroidery
Contains 40 antique mandarin squares and embroidery pieces collected in China by Frederick W. and Elizabeth Crook in the 1960s and 1970s. The squares include badges worn on the front of surcoats, sleeve bands, and skirt panels, embroidered with animals or birds that indicate ranks. Embroidery includes hats, garters, pouches, pockets, and other pieces. The collection dates from the latter part of the Qing Dynasty period, approximately 1800 to 1911.
