James I. Steel autobiography and family records

Scope and Contents

Photocopy of a handwritten autobiography with family records apparently also copied by Steel. James Steel converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in England and migrated to Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1854. He later settled in Tooele County, Utah. Steel entered into polygamy in 1874. Also included are ordinations and patriarchal blessings of family members. Steel also writes about his visions and dreams.

Oliver Cowdery Dunford autobiography and notebook

Scope and Contents

One handwritten autobiography, one notebook, and photocopies of both documents. The notebook contains information on the theory and practice of geology. In his autobiography, Dunford describes his conversion to the Mormon faith in Great Britain.

Scope and Contents Carbon copy of a typewritten autobiography by a man named Baynes who never presented his first name. The author of the item, son of Charles Baynes (1798- ), was born in Clinton, Georgia in 1824. He lived in Georgia, attended college in New Haven, Connecticut (probably Yale University), and eventually settled in New Orleans, Louisiana.
