Scope and Contents
Handwritten autobiography. Starkie writes about his early life in England, his conversion to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, his migration to Utah in 1878, and his life in Tooele, Grantsville, and Ashley Valley, Utah. Starkie concentrates on the early years of his life in England. Also included is a two-page typewritten biography of Starkie by his daughter, Mrs. Isaac M. Jones.

Biographical History
Edward J. Starkie (1843-1933) was a Mormon convert in Utah.
Edward John Starkie was born on March 18, 1843 in Edenham, England. He married Ann Spray on May 30, 1868 in Bristol, England, and together they had four children. In 1870 he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and emigrated to Utah in 1878. There he worked as a farmer in Tooele, Grantsville, and Ashley Valley. His wife Ann died in 1885, leaving him with two daughters. He later married widow Tora Nielsen Jacobsen in 1886. Together they had eight children. Starkie died in Naples, Utah on January 16, 1933.
