Gerald Butler letters and photographs
Scope and Contents
Collection includes twenty-one letters written by Gerald Leander Butler to his sister Eva May Butler Israelsen, which document his experiences in the United States Army and discuss family events and news. Also includes photographs of Butler with fellow soldiers and officers; images of Butler's Army garrison; various San Diego beach scenes; and an image of the San Diego YMCA building.

Biographical History
Gerald Leander Butler (1896-1944) was born in Butlerville, Utah, to Leander Neri Butler and Sally Ephsabeth (Effie) Wagstaff Butler. In 1917 he enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in San Diego, California. Following his discharge from the military in 1918, he returned to Utah where he worked in a variety of jobs. Gerald Leander Butler died in a hunting accident on September 9, 1944.
