Kane to Jane Duval Leiper Kane saying his cousin Elias Kent Kane's condition declined until he died early that morning, and his disease was most likely contracted before he even arrived in Washington. Since he was Catholic, he had his last rites administered to him today. Dated December 12, 1835.
