The explosion claimed several lives, including some of the the President's advisors, but he was safe. Dated March 5, 1844.

Kane is expected home at any moment, says the Pennsylvania legislature has done well by raising taxes, and describes the personal accomplishments and downfalls of Martin Van Buren. The letter has a pen-written note saying that says "Avalanche" and "October 27, '44". It also has a penciled note saying May 1844. Date of production not identified.
