Kimball, Hiram S., 1806-1863
Biographical History
Hiram S. Kimball (1806-1863) was a businessman and military servant who was born in Vermont but later lived in Nauvoo, Illinois and Utah.
Hiram Kimball moved to Nauvoo during his adult life and began doing business there. While he lived there, he learned of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was baptized. He served as a general in the Nauvoo Legion until he was wounded in battle in 1846. When the Saints moved West, he went with them. He was called to serve a mission to the Sandwich Islands but died at sea on the journey there.

Collection contains about 750 documents relating to some 250 actions arising in justice of the peace or circuit courts in Hancock County, Illinois. Also includes a letter from David Martin concerning part of the collection and indexes to court cases involving Joseph Smith Jr. and the autographs of those who martyred Smith.
