Scope and Contents

Handwritten and signed letters, addressed to Calvin Bicknell, dated 16 Feb. 1834, and written from Kirtland, Ohio. The collection is three letters written on a folded sheet of paper. The items were written by Roger and Clarissa Orton. The Ortons write about the Kirtland Temple and the Mormon Church School of the Prophets.

Scope and Contents Contains seven journals of John Lyman Smith, and other autobiographical manuscripts, as wells as a bound typescript volume of an autobiography/journal. The journals include accounts of persecutions in Ohio, Missouri, and Illinois, pioneering in Utah, Lyman's two missions to Europe, and his service as president of the Swiss-Italian and the Swiss-Italian-German missions. He mentions attending the School of the Prophets in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he heard teachings from leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon).
