Administrative History

The Food Science and Nutrition Department (1970-2003) was an instructional unit at Brigham Young University.

The Food Science and Nutrition Department was established in 1970 in a reorganization of the earlier Department of Food and Nutrition. Originally part of the College of Family Living, it was moved to the College of Biological and Agricultural Sciences in 1974. It remained in the college after its renaming as the College of Biology and Agriculture in 1983.

The department provided class instruction leading to bachelor's and master's degrees in food science and nutrition. These included courses in topics such as nutrition, meal management, food technology, food production, and food service management.

Department chairs included Marion Bennion (1970-1972), John Hal. Johnson (1972-1974), John M. Hill (1974-1978), Clayton S. Huber (1978-1983), Kay P. Edwards (1983-1984), Clayton S. Huber 91984-1989), Mark J. Rowe (1989-1998), James M. Harper (1998-1999), and Lynn V. Ogden (1999-2003).
