Administrative History

The Randolph Land and Livestock Company (est. 1910) was a Utah ranching operation and business.

The Randolph Land and Livestock Company was established on March 12, 1910 in a reorganization of the earlier Randolph Land and Cattle Company. Located in Randolph, Utah, the company grazed its own livestock, primarily cattle but also horses and sheep, and leased land to independent livestock owners. Capital was raised by selling company stock, and stockholders' participated in both annual and general meetings held at the Randolph County Court House. Stockholders' also elected members of the Board of Directors. Day-to-day company operations resided with the Board of Directors who met on a near monthly basis. Until March 1920, when the board began using an office in Randolph, board meetings were typically held at the home of one of the board member's.

After the reorganization Archibald McKinnon continued as Chairman of the Board, a new vice-president, Samuel Hanney was elected. Through most of its first ten years, the board regularly discussed the expansion of its land holdings through purchase of bordering lands. Finally, on May 29, 1911, a piece of property known as the "Muir Land" was purchased. Later, in June 1914, the company continued to expand by purchasing the Deseret Live Stock Company’s land. By 1914 the Randolph Land and Livestock Company owned at least 3,400 head of cattle.

Company President Archibald McKinnon died on April 13, 1915. Two years later, at the annual meeting of stockholders', on February 13, 1917, a new board was elected. A. P. Jacobson was appointed the new President with Duffy Ingram, H. J. Norris Jr., Samuel Hanney, Henry Hoffman, Oleef Larson, and William Johnson as the other board members. As early as May 5, 1905 the Board of Directors for the Randolph Land and Livestock Company discussed the idea of establishing a "timber reserve." In March 1918, the board agreed to petition the Forest Service to "get pasture land" for horses and, in July, the company applied for additional land "south of Big Crawford."

In February 1919, a new board was elected, with Demo Pearce, President, and A. P. Jacobson, Vice President. Under Demo Pearce, in June 1919, the Company purchased or otherwise acquired two new parcels of land: 160 acres from William Johnson, and pasture land from the Forest Service. In the months prior to February 1919, a new subsidiary company, the Randolph Reserve Association, was formed.

In March 1930 a new board was elected for the Randolph Land and Livestock Company with Ray Hoffman as President, C. B. Spencer Vice-President, and Leo McKinnon Secretary. In May 1932, C. B. Spencer was elected President, and the last recorded Board meeting of the Randolph Land and Livestock Company was held on March 22, 1937.
