During World War II, he was a flight "leftenant" for the Royal Air Force. He flew with the bomber command pathfinder force, and he identified and marked targets for the bombers that would follow. Hart was interviewed by Daisy Whaley in 1937 as part of the Federal Writer's Project for the Works Progress Administration. The item includes handwritten corrections. Hart describes the work on the plantation and a "grovin' hog" which was a tool for harvesting wheat. He tells how the Yankees entered the plantation, ate what they desired, and announced freedom for the slaves. Hart stayed at the plantation until his master's...

Photocopy of a microfilmed copy of a typescript of an interview. Faucette was interviewed by Daisy Whaley in 1937 as part of the Federal Writer's Project for the Works Progress Administration. The item includes handwritten corrections. Faucette said his master and mistress treated him well and never whipped or sold him. He added that the Confederate Army did more damage to the plantation than did the Union. After the Civil War, the master let his father use a plot of land for a year.

Frank Whitaker interview with Albert E. Haines

Typescript of an interview conducted by Frank Whitaker on 29 Jan. 1985 for Hillam's War Project at Brigham Young University. Haines talks about his training in the United States Army, his deployment to combat in October 1944 as a platoon leader, and his participation in the battles of the Hurtgen Forest and the Bulge. He was severely wounded by machine gun fire on 13 Jan. 1945.
