Ronald Westhorpe interview

 File — Folder: 1
Identifier: MSS SC 3177

Scope and Contents

Transcript of an interview conducted by Eric Rayner probably in 1985 for the Ray Hillam war project. Westhorpe lived in London, England, in 1939 at the beginning of the war. During World War II, he was a flight "leftenant" for the Royal Air Force. He flew with the bomber command pathfinder force, and he identified and marked targets for the bombers that would follow. He talked about the frustrations involved with mission cancellations, and he said it was hard to see his friends die even though the war was justified. He also stated that food rationing continued in the United Kingdom long after the war was over.
