Emery F. Barrus letters and diary

Scope and Contents

Nine handwritten letters and 6 pages of Elder Emery F. Barrus' journal kept while he served as a missionary for the Mormon Church in the Southern States Mission in 1899. Letters and journal describe both Barrus' travels and attempts to preach the restored gospel, primarily to people of Tennessee and Missouri. Both letters and journal pages are photocopied for patron use. Also included are the funerary program and a newspaper obituary of Ruth Hammond Barrus.

John M. Bernhisel letter

Photocopy of a handwritten letter dated 1 March 1857 and addressed to Refus C. Allen. Young writes about protection against the Indians, presenting a good example for the Indians, and gives his approval for a school for Indian children.

Scope and Contents Photocopies of typed and printed official statements of the First Presidency of the Mormon Church between the years 1935 and 1951 as well as a book entitled "Statements of the First Presidency" volume 6. This item was published in 1975 and compiled and autographed by James R. Clark. The statements relate to the church members and hierarchy dealing with Mormon doctrine and theology as well as Mormon Church policy and procedure.
