Memories of John Nock Hinton and Emma Spendlove

Typewritten biography believed to have been written by Rose Hinton. The item is a biography of John Nock Hinton and his wife Emma Spendlove Hinton. They were converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in England and migrated to Utah where they lived in Virgin in Washington County, Utah.

Biography of James Spratley, senior

Photocopy of a microfilm copy of a typed biography. James Spratley was born in Virginia (later West Virginia) in 1837, he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1850, and migrated to Utah in 1851. He settled in American Fork where he served as a city marshall. He died in 1925.

William Carter Staines letter

Abstract

The folder contains a printed, undated letter. Internal evidence suggests that the item was written sometime in the 1870s. Staines gives the prices and conditions for travelling from New York City to Ogden, Utah.

Staker family biographies

Typewritten biographies of four persons with copies of each. The collection includes biographies of Elizabeth Young Staker (1837-1912), Aaron Staker (1843-1864), Cornelia Snooks Staker (1801-1884), and Alma Staker (1837-1932). The Cornelia Staker biography was originally published in the "Deseret News" in 1883. The dates of the composition of the other items are uncertain. Each of these persons were Mormon pioneers to Utah who lived in Mt. Pleasant, Utah.

John Henry Standifird papers

Handwritten diaries and letters. Standifird writes about his life in Bountiful, St. George, Kanab, Panguitch, Manti, and Moab, Utah. He also lived in Taylor and Alpine, Arizona. He gives information on the Utah Expedition, 1857-1858, his work on the St. George and Manti temples, his mission for the Mormon Church in Missouri, and his daily life in Utah.

John Steele and Mahonri Moriancumer Steele diaries

Collection contains the mission diaries of John and Mahonri M. Steele. Included in the diaries of John are day to day descriptions of his time serving as a Mormon missionary, and serving in the Mormon Battalion. He also gives some family history and autobiographical information about his life prior to the journal. The journals written by Mahonri M. Steele tell about his time as a Mormon missionary to England and Scotland.

Biography of Mary Ann Reece Steele

Photocopy of a microfilm copy of a typewritten biography. Mary Ann Reece was born in 1823 in England. She joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when she was 17 years old and came to America to follow her religion. She married Richard Steele in 1845 in Nauvoo, Illinois. She migrated to Utah in 1851 and settled in American Fork. She died in 1888.

This item is a photocopy of a microfilm copy of a typewritten biography. Richard Steele was born in 1818 in England and joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1840. He migrated to the United States in 1842. Steele lived in Nauvoo, Illinois, met the first president of the Mormon Church, Joseph Smith, and migrated to Utah in 1851. He settled in American Fork in 1852 and died in 1881.

History of Mary Ann Smith Steggell

Photocopy of a microfilm copy of a typewritten biography. Mary Ann Smith was born in 1848 in England. Her family soon joned the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She came to Utah in 1868 and married Jonathan Steggell in that same year. She settled in American Fork, Utah, and died there in 1933.
