A short sketch of the life of Levi Jackman

Typescript copy of a life sketch originally written by Jackman in 1851 which describes his early family life in Vermont and New York. The sketch also includes journal excerpts from 1835-1847 which detail his Latter-day Saint Church missions to Ohio, the 1847 trek across the Plains and early Utah life. Also includes a typescript of notes from a sketch by S.C. Richardson about Jackman.

Andrew Jackson Shupe diary

Scope and Contents This is a typescript of a diary of a Mexican War soldier who served in the "Mormon Battalion." The diary was kept from 16 July 1846 to 10 Sept. 1847 with a few entries for the years 1848-1855. He was also among the first groups to enter Salt Lake Valley in July of 1847. He went to Winter Quarters in August 1847 and went to Ogden, Utah in 1852. There are numerous gaps in this diary. The entries tend to be short but some are lengthy and detailed. Silas Sanford Smith letters

Holograph letters from Silas to his brother Jesse Nathaniel Smith (1834-1906). The missives are largely concerned with Smith family and other personal matters. Four of the letters are from "Mother Smith," one is from Margaret Rollins to Mary J. and Emma W., and two are from Nancy M. Bollin to Mary J. West. Photocopies of the letters are also with the collection.
