Lucina was the mother of Erasmus Snow (early Mormon apostle). Gardner also emphasizes Snow's spiritual experiences.

The collection documents the work that Catherine did for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as an ambassador to Africa and the Illinois Department of Public Health.
