Collection contains correspondence, itineraries, meeting minutes, magazine and newspaper clippings, photographs, biographical materials, books that Catherine is featured in, and videocassettes. The collection documents the work that Catherine did for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as an ambassador to Africa and the Illinois Department of Public Health.

Biographical History

Catherine M. Stokes was born July 11, 1936 in Doloroso, Mississippi. She married Henry Thomas Stokes on February 14, 1960, and they had three children. She and Henry later divorced. Catherine was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1979. Catherine has worked as a registered professional nurse, and worked as an Assistant Deputy Director in the Office of Health Care Regulation of the Illinois Department of Public Health. She has also been instrumental in helping to spread the gospel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all over the world. She later helped with the Public Affairs Committee of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
