Abstract

Ida Boyd Reid collection of John Boyd Sr. family papers contains papers, photographs, clippings, and scrapbooks related to the Boyd family. Much of the collection is regarding John Boyd Jr., a colorful Provo sheriff known as "scourge of the bootlegger."

Tells of Ayer's experiences in the mines of Nevada, enlistment in the U.S. Cavalry, maneuvers in California, Arizona, New Mexico and northern Mexico, resignation in 1864, and later responsibility for Ayer Library at the Newberry Library.

Artifacts from or during WWII, especially pertaining to Butler's time as a prisoner of war in Germany, including a sacrament tray, medallions, shards of pottery and pieces of plaster and of the building where he was housed, a small medal sign that marked his bunker number, barbed wire and a metal bracket, small stones, and a heart-shaped locket with pictures of Butler in uniform and of his wife. Also includes a scarf from Africa that Butler acquired while flying there during WWII.
