Emmett R. Hayes missionary papers
Collection contains photocopies of missionary diaries of Emmett R. Hayes during his Mormon mission as the thirteenth missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to enter post-WWI Germany. Also contained are a series of photocopied outgoing letters from Emmett Hayes during this period to his family, primarily his parents. A small collection of mission-related ephemera is contained.
John Peter Sorenson journals, 1879-1908
Contains 17 volumes of journals kept by Sorenson from 1879 to 1908. Includes information about his service in the Australasian Mission in New Zealand and Australia from 1879 to 1881, and in the Scandanavian Mission in Denmark and Sweden in 1887-1889.
John Peter Sorenson record books, 1881-1970, bulk: 1881-1920
Contains four volumes of records created by Sorenson. Includes a brief history of his life, genealogical records, temple records, and a financial ledger. Also includes a handwritten transcription of book on the teachings of Jesus Christ that came from Nauvoo, Illinois in the 1840s, and a handwritten report from Sorenson's mission to Scandinavia in the 1880s.
Andrew Locy Rogers missionary diary
Material contains the diary which Rogers used to document his mission to Ireland and Scotland. He served his mission from 1909-1910 and his diary documents his experiences in a series of communities. His diary also chronicles experiences with mission companions. He describes his interactions with other religious denominations, including the Presbyterian Church and the Young Men's Christian Association. His diary also includes original poetry and local humor.
Samuel H. B. Smith diary
The collection consists of photocopies of Smith's mission diary, his autobiography, some correspondence, and records of ordinances performed in the Endowment House in the 1870s. Smith kept his diary while serving on a mission to Great Britain (1860-1863). He recorded the activities and experiences of missionary life and activities. The autobiography is brief and covers from Smith's birth to 1857.
