Scope and Contents Photocopies of handwritten diaries. Partridge writes about his mission to Hawaii from 1854 to 1858 and from 1882 to 1885 for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the latter when he served as mission president. He writes about incidents during the Utah War (1857-1858), and settling in Farmington and in Fillmore, Utah, where he served as bishop. Photocopy of a microfilm copy of a typescript. The manuscript is a history of the early settling of southern Idaho and northern Utah. Most of the early settlers were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Also included are biographies of the author's ancestors including David Jensen. David and his wife, Serena Peterson joined the Mormon Church in 1862 in Denmark. They came to Utah in 1863.

James Mills Paxton autobiography

Scope and Contents

Photocopy of a 17-page handwritten autobiography. Paxton was born in England, joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1854, migrated to Utah in 1863, worked in Parowan in 1864, moved to Panguitch in 1865, participated in the Black Hawk War against the Indians, and learned masonry at Toquerville in 1867. He also presents a copy of his patriarchal blessing.

J. W. Phelps diaries

Scope and Contents These diaries are photocopied from a microfilm copy of the handwritten originals. Phelps kept the diaries primarily when he was involved in the Utah Expedition from 1857 to 1858 and the subsequent military occupation of Utah from 1858 to 1859. These items are volumes 15 to 26 of his diaries. Phelps writes about going to Utah "for suppression of the Mormons."
