Powers was in the United States Marine Corps stationed at Sugie, Japan, with the First Marine Air Wing in 1964 when he learned he was being deployed to Vietnam. He had already been in the Marine Corps for six years and had received much training. He landed in Danang, Vietnam, and was a plane commander in the UH23 Delta helicopter. Transcript of a interview conducted by Jim Keezell in 1985 for the Ray Hillam project. Powers was the wife of Allen Powers who served for the United States Marine Corps in Vietnam. Carolyn told about her life when her husband was stationed in Vietnam. She went to Okinawa to be closer to her husband when he was in Vietnam. Carolyn said it was a good learning experience to live in another culture in Okinawa.
