Brigham Smoot family papers
Collection contains journals, letters, transcripts, and other materials produced by members of the Smoot family in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The materials document the missionary service of Brigham Smoot in Samoa and Tonga, the missionary service of Gilbert Van Schoonhoven, the military service of Roland Nesbit Smoot during World War II, and various family events and issues that were occuring at the time. Dated 1866 to approximately 1949.
Caroline R. Smoot genealogical papers
Includes Smoot's temple record book containing surnames such as Collins, Wells, Rogers, Daniels, Stowe, and Petty, 1891-1907; correspondence, 1885-1891; research notes; receipt for "A History of our Own Times," 1896; patriarchal blessing for Caroline Rogers Smoot, 1899; obituary for Hugh J. Cannon; Relief Society teacher's leaflet; and an application for membership in Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
Smoot family paintings, approximately 1880-1941
Contains a compact disk with nine digital images of Smoot family paintings. The dates of production are not identified for the paintings.
Isaac A. Smoot papers
Typewritten diary, correspondence, certificates, scrapbooks of newspaper clippings, photographs, and tributes. The diary was kept from 1953 to 1957 while Smoot was serving as president of the Northern States Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The other materials relate to the function of the postal service in Utah and to LDS Church matters.
Reed Smoot certificate
Printed form with handwritten notations. A certificate appointing Reed Smoot, Latter-day Saint Church leader and later Utah Senator, as director of the Territorial Insane Asylum in Utah. On reverse is an affidavit signed by Smoot swearing to support the U.S. Constitution, especially the acts regarding polygamy.
