Contains personal papers of Winslow Smith, brother of George Albert Smith, and his wife Emily Whitney Smith. Includes family correspondence, cards, articles, newspapers and newspaper clippings. Also contains a scrapbook of newspaper articles pertaining to events during Winslow's mission presidency for the LDS church in the Northern States mission from 1919-1923 as well as various poems by family members. Materials dated 1908-1982.

Biographical History
Winslow Farr Smith (1881-1966), brother of LDS church president George Albert Smith, served as both a mission and stake president for the LDS church.
Winslow Farr Smith was born on January 19, 1881 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He served a mission for the LDS church from 1902 to 1905 in Switzerland and Germany. In 1906 he both married Emily Whitney (1885-1973), daughter of Orson F. Whitney, and was ordained a member of the Quorum of the Seventy in the LDS church. His other church work service included serving as president of the Northern States Mission from 1919 to 1923, a Sunday School teacher in the Salt Lake City 18th Ward, and president of the Ensign Stake in Salt Lake City from 1924 to 1940.
Winslow was a salesman for the J.G. McDonald Candy Company in 1902 and then for the Salt Lake Knitting Works until 1919. In 1937 he became vice-president of the Libby Investment Company of which his brother, George Albert Smith, was president.
Winslow and Emily had three children: Winslow Whitney (1907-1994), Dorothy (1910-1977), and Virginia Farr.
Winslow passed away on December 25, 1966.

Emily Whitney Smith (1885-1973) was the wife of Winslow Smith and served a mission with her husband during his mission presidency.
Emily Whitney was born January 29, 1885 to Orson F. Whitney and Zina B. Smooth in Utah. She married Winslow Farr Smith on June 7, 1906. Together, they later served a mission in the Northern States mission (from 1919-1923) where he served as the mission president.
Smith passed away on May 12, 1973.
