Scope and Contents

Contains Teacher Certification Office and Education Advisement Certification Office records on microfilm, filmed in 1983, 1984, and 1986. The records pertain to the Offices' role in facilitating teacher certification for the years 1966 to 1983. Comprised of alphabetical lists of students seeking certification in specific fields, followed by their related certification paperwork, such as transcripts, checklists for grade and hour requirements, student teaching evaluations, changes to previously recommended students, and letters sent to the Utah Board of Education endorsing students for certification. Original documents are dated 1966 to 1981.

Biographical / Historical

The Education Advisement and Certification Office provided academic advising to College of Education students from 1979 to 1985, as they progressed through professional certification programs in connection with their formal university curriculum. Referred to as the college advisement center, or EAC, the office reviewed student applications and endorsed them for certification to the Utah State Board of Education. The Office was supervised by Mary Louise Seamons from 1980-1981, and Dr. Clark Webb from 1981-1982.

Biographical / Historical

The Teacher Certification Office provided academic advising to Brigham Young University students seeking professional teaching certifications related to their degrees. The office was in the College of Education and required students to work with an advisor to progress through a certification program. The office reviewed applications, letters, evaluations, and transcripts, and endorsed students for certification to the Utah State Board of Education. The office was active from 1957 to 1978, at which point it became known as the Education Advisement and Certification Office.
