Tintype photograph of a boy, who is probably a son of Thomas L. Kane. The boy, who is about 9 to 10 years old, is sitting on an upholstered chair that has many strands of decorative tassels hanging from it. He is wearing a heavy dark suit and is sticking his thumb into one of his buttonholes. His cheeks and mouth are slightly tinted with pink.

Tintype photograph of three unknown girls who are wearing large coats over their dresses. Two of the girls are sitting down, while one stands in the background with her hands resting on the back of a chair. The girl on the left is wearing a black and white hat and a large shawl draped over her shoulder. There is some writing scratched on the back of the photograph which is hard to read. "H? FROM S? A? 7 1872."

Tintype of two unknown women wearing colonial-style clothing. The woman at the front it sitting on a white railing while the other stands behind her. Both women are holding large folded fans. Their faces are tinted with pink while a red line has been drawn on top of their white bonnets.

Scope and Contents

Caroline N. Watts was a stepsister to Elizabeth Wood. Caroline is wearing a plaid dress as she leans against the tasseled arms of a chair or couch. Her hair is blond and she wears long earrings. Her cheeks and mouth are tinted pink. On the back of the photograph is written her name, age (11-years-old), and the date "April 1876." The back of the photograph is very rusty, especially where the writing is located.

Ferrotype photograph of a woman, most likely Elizabeth Kane, wearing a large black hat tied around her chin and a ruffled black dress. The picture is within a pink embossed paper frame which folds into a card. Inside the card is the writing, "Given to me as a farewell gift 6/22/1872," along with a pressed violet flower. The photograph was taken June 22, 1872 by Estabrooke's Ferrotypes in New York.

Photograph of an unknown girl, but most likely a teenage picture of Elizabeth Dennistoun Wood before her marriage to Thomas L. Kane. She is about 13 to 15 years old. She is wearing a satin dress with a white collar and a bow brooch at her nack. Her dress has small bows that run down the front of it. Her hair is pulled back with the sides slightly sticking out.

Ferrotype photograph possibly of Harriet, Thomas L. Kane's oldest child. It is a very small picture of "Harrie." Embossed around the picture are leaves and berries. She is wearing a black high collared dress and long black earrings. Her hair is pulled up on the sides. On the back is written "Harrie from Lottie April 1868." The photograph was taken by A. K. P. Trask's New Ferrotype Gallery in Philadelphia.
