Kane family photographs and albums
Scope and Contents
Photographs show several members of the Kane family and close friends. Many of the photographs are tintypes. Includes a set of photographs of the 1872-1873 winter trip Thomas L. and Elizabeth Kane took with two of their sons took to visit St. George, Utah with Brigham Young. Another Utah trip was photographed of a trip Kane descendants took to Utah in the 1900s. Along with the photographs there are the two original family albums that once housed the pictures, as well as a CD-ROM with scanned images of several of the photographs.

Biographical History
The Kane family was a prominent family of politicians, lawyers, and doctors in Pennsylvania. Thomas L. Kane (1822-1883) was born in Philadelphia to John K. Kane (1795-1858), judge and politician in the city. In 1853 he married Elizabeth Dennistown Wood (1836-1909), and they had four children. Following the Civil War, the Kane family moved to western Pennsylvania to found the town of Kane, Pennsylvania.
