Scope and Contents

Contains the journal ledger of Dora M. Hall Stout of Rockville, Utah. The journal contains entries of meetings, blessings, school notes, family events, a history of her parents, and other recordings, dated 1888 to 1935. Also contains a personal history started by Dora, and continued by her children Erma Stout Bringhurst and Edwin Hall Stout, touching on Dora's life in Rockville and Hurricane, Utah. Collection material dates from 1888 to 1948.

Biographical / Historical

Dora Martha Murton Hall was born January 8, 1878, in Rockville, Utah to John Charles Hall and Keziah DeGrey Hall. She married Alfred Fisk Stout on March 24, 1898, in St. George, Utah. Dora served as the ward organist or assistant organist for 45 years in Rockville and Hurricane, and served as the Y.W.M.I.A. president for seven years. She was a member of the Zion Park Stake Geneaological Society for several years. Alfred and Dora had six children, five of which lived to adulthood. Dora died on July 1, 1940, in Hurricane, Utah.

Erma Stout Bringhurst was born April 15, 1908 in Hurricane, Utah, to Dora M. Stout Hall and Alfred Fisk Stout Jr. Erma married Samuel Bringhurst on March 24, 1898, in St. George. Utah, and they had five children. She was a graduate of Dixie College and attended Brigham Young University. Erma died May 19, 1957.

Eldwin Hall Stout was born April 2, 1915 in Hurricane, Utah, to Dora M. Stout Hall and Alfred Fisk Stout Jr. Eldwin attended University of Utah and later worked in a smelter in Salt Lake City, Utah. He married Leona Hansen on July 21, 1937 in Salt Lake City. Leona passed away in 1970, and Eldwin married Melva Lee on February 22, 1974. Eldwin died December 4, 1977, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
